Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada famously called JNTU-K,
was originally ‘The College of Engineering, Vizagpatnam’ at the time of its establishment in 1946. It is now a sprawling campus of 110 acres, green with mango trees in the fast developing Port city.
This college became a constituent of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University w.e.f 02-10-1972 through an act of legislature along with other sister institutions under the control of the then Director of Technical Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh. Earlier, it was affiliated to Andhra University. In the year 2003 the college has become autonomous.
Rangaraya Medical College, Kakinada is a topnotch, one of the top Medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh & Telangana states. Founded in 1958, Rangaraya Medical College is one of the old and premier Government Medical colleges in Andhra pradesh, It is affiliated to Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences. It is the home to several world class & most reputed Doctors who got settled in India & Abroad.
Dr. Datla Satyanarayana Raju and Dr. M. V. Krishna Rao had been dreaming of starting a private medical college to cater to the students of coastal Andhra Pradesh, and particularly Godavari districts. They founded and registered the Medical Education Society on 16 April 1958. The objects were of promoting Medical Education, Research and Relief through voluntary effort. Currently RAMCOSA A student alumni that operates as a nonprofit organization that serves Rangaraya medical college and hospital by encouraging support for its development and advancements by providing various facilities and development works like providing scholarships to the merit students of RMC, maintaining the infrastructure & facilities etc. by raising funds from its old students who got settled as doctors.
Pithapur Rajah’s Government College (Autonomous), Kakinada, Famously called as PR College and It is founded in 1884 by Sri Rajah Rao Venkata Mahipathi, Gangadhara Rama Rao, Bahadur, Making it one of the Oldest Colleges in India.
It was started as a middle school in 1853 and later became a College providing Intermediate, UG & PG courses. Sri Peddada Rama Swamy worked as principal Initially. Famous personalities like Devulapalli krishnasastri, P V Narasimha Rao, Ushasri ,etc., were students the students of this college.
Andhra University Postgraduate Centre, (Now, affiliated to Aadikavi Nannayya University) established in 1977. The university is located on a 50.93-acre (20.61 ha) campus in Thimmapuram, 6 KMs from Kakinada Town Railway Station.
“Recently Central & State govt have proposed to set up Reputed universities like Logistics University (Check the progress here ), Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT)opened in a temporary campus at JNTU-Kakinada & Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) got sanctioned land for the permanent campus buildings at Kakinada SEZ (KSEZ).”
