Kakinada is an Smart city, Headquarter of East Godavari District in Andhra Pradesh State, India. Navigable channels connect Kakinada with the Godavari Delta Canal system. Kakinada is also known for its serene, calm & peacefulness. The city is well marked for rice and cottonseed-oil mills, salt works, and tobacco factories. The principal exports are cotton, rice, and oilseeds.

Kakinada is the “Fertilizer City” of Andhra Pradesh. Nagarjuna Fertilizers is the biggest Urea manufacturer in coastal Andhra while Godavari Fertilizers produces DAP(Di-Ammonium Phosphate). Kakinada has been in the news recently after several oil companies decided to use this as a transit point for oil and gas shipments. The economic value of these investments has increased considerably after the recent mega gas finds by Reliance in the KG basin. The recently accorded SEZ status is an indicator of the immenses potential for economic growth in this area.

Education:

The city has one of the oldest Engineering campuses in Andhra Pradesh, the JNTU Engineering College popularly known as Engineering College, Kakinada (ECK) (estd. 1944), which is a part of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University system. There also well established institutes such as the Pithapuram Raja Govt. Degree College (known as P.R. College), Ideal Degree College, Rangaraya Medical College etc. People from Kakinada can easily be identified with their characteristic East Godavari Telugu accent.

Rail: Kakinada is having Four Railway stations i.e., Old Kakinada Port Railway Station, New Kakinada Port station, Kakinada Town Station(CCT) & Sarpavaram Railway Station. There are several trains operating directly to Kakinada from Major cities. You can reach Kakinada via Samalkot Junction(SLO). It is 60 kms from Rajahmundry Railway station and 162 kms from Visakhapatnam Railway Station.

STORY BEHIND THE NAME:

Kakinada is a smart city situated in East godavari district is known for its good connecting roads and one of the best planned city and having resemblance with the chennai, which is why it is also called as ‘Second Chennai’. 

You may have heard lots of stories behind it, some of them may be like British Government called it cocanada from which the name kakinada derived and also named after Kakinandivada.

Another popular story we hear is, In tretayugam there is a demon called Kakasurudu, Who lived in times of Ramanayana and had troubled Seeta devi in the form of a crow! Then Lord Rama assasinated him which its body was fell down from the sky at the place called Kakinada.

Resembling Canada in many aspects Kakinada initially was called Cocanada, railway stations are also called Cocanada Port(COA) and Cocanada Town(CCT) respectively.
