Railway passengers will not be charged extra service charge on booking of railway E-Tickets until March 2018. This exemption first effected after de-monetization in November last year was primarily to encourage digital transactions in booking the railway tickets.
The same had been extended to June 30 & later September 30 and now is set to extend further. E-tickets is one of the easiest ways to grab your ticket whenever you want & wherever you are.
Indian Railways, In normal course the service charges on booking the train tickets online through IRCTC ranges from Rs 20 to 40 per ticket.
On September 29, Railway Board gave authoritative instructions to the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) for the benefits to be extended till March next year.
Service charges are a major generator of rail revenue for the IRCTC. Senior railway officials say that almost 33 percent of the IRCTC revenue comes from the service charge collected on online bookings.
